MINISTRIES
If any man speak, let him speak as the
oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the
ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be
glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion
for ever and ever. Amen. -
1 Peter 4:11
God gives each of us an opportunity to
reach out further and spread his word! The desire of a Christian
is to witness to our brothers and sisters who are lost. We need
to reach those who are in need of God's undying love and New
Victory strongly believes in doing just that! We, as a church,
want to be all we are capable of being and do all we can to
glorify God and tell others about him! Men, women, young and old
alike are heavily involved in these ministries. Whether it is
feeding a football team, going on mission trips, teaching
children, or singing his praise, New Victory acts on God's
calling and delights in doing his will.
We want to introduce these different
ministries to you so that you can find the one, or the many,
that you want to be involved with. The ministries at New Victory
offer a wide variety of opportunities and activities; however,
they all work together and support each other to reach the
common goal of doing God's work! It would be an honor to have
you join in on this goal with us!
- Children's Ministry
We as adults need to realize how the
honesty and innocence of children can be valuable to every day life. Reaching
children at a young age and teaching them about God's saving grace is a priority
at New Victory. We are able to do so through the Children's Ministry.
In 2005, Kelly Edens began the Children's Ministry at New Victory. Kelly
counts it both an honor and a privilege to serve the Lord by working with
children. Her goal for this ministry to teach, and help equip the children of
today to become the Christian leaders in our churches tomorrow. She simply wants
to open these children's hearts to God.
The Children's Ministry reaches children in a variety of ways. On Sunday
morning, Kelly meets with Kingdom Kids (children three years old-third grade)
for children's church and then on Wednesday nights Mission Kids (children three
years old-fifth grad) meets for mission study. God has opened many doors to this
ministry; therefore, Kelly was able to start up a children's puppet ministry.
Kelly also directs the children's choir (children five years old-fifth grade) at
New Victory to allow children to lift up their voices! Recently, Joyful Noise,
the children's hand bell choir, has evolved from the children's choir.
New Victory is blessed to have this ministry be so involved with these
children. God has allowed this ministry to reach out and teach them about God's
wonderful grace. We can already see God working in their young lives and we are
eager to see what God has in store for this ministry and these children!
- 5th Quarter
Football, food, fellowship, and ministering to young people about God – That
is how the people at New Victory enjoy spending their Friday nights! The Fifth
Quarter Ministry enables New Victory to spread God's holy name to high school
students!
The idea for 5th quarter originally came from a ministry in New Orleans and
New Victory was excited to get it started here in Jonesborough! In 2004, Dean
France began directing the 5th Quarter ministry and to this day it is continuing
to grow!
After each home football game at David Crockett High School, 5th Quarter and
New Victory minister to and feed the football teams and fans. The food is served
hot, fresh, and always free. What a way to reach out to our young people!
Usually a 3-4 course meal is available! This consists of possibly hamburgers,
hot dogs, spaghetti, salad, chips, bread, and always desserts and drinks! In
appreciation of this ministry, David Crockett High School has built a building
to aid in better serving these meals. Each game averages roughly 300-400 plates
served! The goal for this ministry is to simply reach as many people as possible
and get the exciting word of God out to young people!
This ministry is a great testimony for the Lord and a blessing to the
community! God has really provided this ministry and New Victory is excited to
see where he is going to lead it next!
- Help Center
We all need the essentials of life to survive in this world: food,
shelter, and clothing. Unfortunately, some families simply do not have the means
to provide these items. New Victory wants to lend a helping hand and through The
Help Center ministry we are able to reach families and offer some help.
In 2004, Consider the Lilies, a small clothing ministry, began out of the
basement of Jennifer France's home. By God Grace, in January 2008, this clothing
ministry evolved into the Help Center ministry at New Victory. The Help Center
offers food, clothing, and toiletries to families in need of these items. The
doors are always open to helping! The Help Center averages helping 150-200
people a month through this ministry. The goal for the Help Center is not only
to serve a willing God, but to reach out further in the community and help more
families in need! The Help Center hopes to someday start a literacy program and
reach individuals who can not read. Jennifer also hopes to soon be delivering
gift baskets to new or expecting mothers through this ministry!
The Help Center is truly a blessing to this church and the community! New
Victory is looking forward to the new and exciting things God will bring to this
ministry.

- Men's Ministry
Jesus was a carpenter and he loved his people. He met all the needs of
his people by loving them first! That is what the Men’s Ministry is all about.
Men need spiritual fellowship with other men and this ministry allows them to do
so.
In June 2008, Bill Cutshall began the Men’s Ministry at New Victory. On Monday
nights at 7:00, men from the church meet to pray for other men and their needs.
This ministry goes out into the community to help those in need. They recently were
able to rebuild an unsafe porch for an elderly family. While rebuilding, they
made close spiritual relationships not only with each other, but with the
family. Bill’s goal for this ministry is to support other ministries throughout
the church with spiritual and physical help.
This ministry is a truly a blessing here at New Victory. The Lord has enabled
these men to help where help may be needed! It is an amazing testimony for the
Lord to rebuild something for someone who is not able to do so! New Victory is
genuinely eager to see where the Lord will take these men next!
- Media Ministry
Sickness, vacations, misunderstandings, or lack of
faith; these are all reasons why people do not come to church faithfully. New
Victory wants to reach these people as though they were there, sitting in the
congregation! The Media Ministry is focused on mass outreach not only through
the church, but in the community.
Mike Tilson began New Victory's Media Ministry in April of 2005. Since then,
there have been over 200 DVDs produced, over 3000 DVDs distributed, and
thousands of people visiting the website. The Media Ministry offers DVD's of all
AM worship services, river baptisms and specials, including singing
services. Copies of these DVD's are available for you, located in the church
library, which Mike keeps updated and stocked. Anyone can get a DVD of any
recorded service for a simple $2 donation to cover cost of materials. To receive
information or a DVD contact Mike
Tilson. The Media Ministry is also in charge of the church website, church
directory, church publications, and supporting staff technology issues.
The Media Ministry is a divine blessing to New Victory. We want to continue
to use media as a way to reach others further for Christ! New Victory is eager
to see what God has in store for the future of this ministry!
- Music Ministry
We, as believers, are able to worship God's glorious name is many ways;
making a joyful noise is New Victory's Choir's way of spreading the word to
others! Men, women, young and old delight in making this beautiful noise at the
beginning of every service held at New Victory!
In 2008, Mike Anglin began directing the New Victory Baptist music ministry.
This ministry desires in worshiping and leading the congregation into the throne
of God. The New Victory Choir focuses on preparing the hearts of the
congregation for the message being delivered. Whether it is old hymns,
contemporary music, a live band, or accapella words this choir is blessed with
beautiful voices to sing God's wondrous praise! The goal for the Choir ministry
is to simply use talents God allowed to lift up his holy name! New Victory would
love to see more individuals involved in the choir.
The Choir is a blessing to each person and each service. New Victory is
amazed at what the Lord has done and is doing through song. We are looking
forward to what the Lord has in store for the talent in this choir!
- Parish Nurse
A person's physical health directly impacts their spiritual health. As
Christians, we must strive to obtain our optimal level of physical health
on earth in order to achieve our potential in God's Kingdom. Thankfully, through
the Parish Nurse ministry at New Victory, we can help educate and teach others
about the importance of our health care and well being.
Jamie Swift began the Parish Nurse ministry at New Victory in 2003. This
ministry offers free health screenings every Wednesday night, focusing on blood
pressures and glucose screenings. It also provides basic health information and
education on diagnoses, procedures, medications and other health care issues.
The Parish Nurse ministry organizes health awareness activities with guest
speakers and special events throughout each year.
The goal of Parish Nursing is to help encourage physical and
spiritual health among church and community members. The Parish Nurse serves as
counselor, health advocate, and liaison. The nurse's office at New Victory is
open on Wednesday nights from 6:00 until 6:45 pm. Blood pressure, glucose and
weight screenings are available each week. The Parish Nurse is also available by
cell phone for medical consultation or questions.
New Victory is excited about this ministry and eager to get involved
with health care education through Christian fellowship.
- Young At Hearts
Following God's will and worshiping his name does not
have an age. The young and the old alike have love in their hearts and a strong
spirit for the Lord! The Young At Hearts Ministry at New Victory gives senior
adults a special opportunity to use their spirit to serve God!
Betty Burkey began The Young At Hearts Ministry at New Victory in August
2005. Young at Hearts is an adult fellowship group for those aged 50 and over.
This group works together with other ministries in the church throughout the
community. Fixing meals for the homebound and taking baskets to local nursing
homes are just a couple of projects they do each month. Young at Hearts also
prepares meals for families in the community who have recently lost a love one.
Christian fellowship is a priority for this ministry. Young At Hearts get
together for exciting fellowship once a month through a variety of activities
such as picnics at the lake, barge rides, covered dish suppers, cookouts,
breakfasts, and even trips to Biltmore Estates.
Life is about enjoyment! The goal for Young At Hearts is simply to allow
senior adults to enjoy life and worship together in their daily walk with God!
Betty would be blessed to see more seniors get involved in this wonderful
ministry. This ministry is a blessing to New Victory and all those involved!
- Youth
The youth group at New Victory Baptist Church is open to youth from the
5th grade through the 12th grade. This group is lead by Rick and Rhonda Edens.
It is our desire that everything this group is involved with would bring honor
to god. We covet your prayers for our group of special young men and women.
Mark 16:15 (KJV)
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to
every creature.
It is our goal to equip the youth of this church with the skills to go into
the community and the world to share the gospel with everyone
.
2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but
is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance.
The youth meet at the church in the old sanctuary upstairs on Wednesday nights.
We eagerly await the great opportunities that God has in store for this group.
We will continue to seek God’s will in all that we do. We will patiently wait
for God’s timing instead of our own. We will endeavor to use every opportunity
that He gives us to learn and to share the gospel.
